So I am approaching this post slightly different.  Can you tell the change?  Yes, I am reversing the order of the pictures.  Instead of giving the bland before photos as the first photos you see, I decided to give you the finished product and work in reverse order.  I think it makes for a more sightly initial post.  What do you think?  I welcome your comments and feedback for the site.

Let us start with the kitchenette.  (Again, the entire office is painted in a flat very neutral cream color with florescent lighting throughout, neither of which was my choice but the building owner's decision).  With this color palate and lighting it makes for a very drab backdrop.  Incorporating color without paint can present many difficult challenges at times.  As you can see in the kitchenette area we had open shelving with products cluttering the shelves.  By incorporating the fork and spoon pictures and the coordinating iron silverware and scroll above the pictures it really makes the area alive with color.  Yes, it also brings the cabinet color around to warm the room up even though the pictures are still in a neutral palate.  It is all about drawing your eyes around the room without pointing out a particular subject.  Did you know that green is considered neutral?  It sure is.  By adding a the tiered vases with pops of green vase filler and candles not only does the area brighten, but the candles smell fabulous.  Adding the raphia to the outside of the vases incorporates added dimension and texture.  What do you think about the shelving area, do you remember it?  Why did I choose a curtain the same color as the wall?  Consider this:  If a darker color curtain or even a curtain the color of the cabinetry would have been placed, it would have completely changed the dynamics of the room.  It would have made it closed in and off balance and I had to keep in mind a a full sized refrigerator was to be installed within days.  It would have also drawn your attention directly to the area.  By adding the same color curtain as the wall color it gives the room balance and an open feeling. I neglected to get a full view picture of the kitchenette with the refrigerator installed, but you can see the handles in some.  The end result was a clutter-free larger kitchenette feeling.  Very clean and crisp.  

Now across the hall we tackled the break room.  Again, we were in a time crunch to get the decor installed in the 2000 sq (or more at this point I cannot remember) office so I failed to get TRUE before pictures.  You will, however, see the the addition of the table to the break room area.  That table was purchased on clearance at a local discount store on a huge markdown.  It was nice to have the concealed leaf storage to the table, but it was heavily damaged and a little rickety.  While running through Wal-Mart one day to pick up nails and such to hang photos in the office with I happened by the furniture section.  I looked over and saw this table and thought...that is it.  The chairs and bench seating were sold separately, however, it gave me the option to mix and match the seating and add an additional color to the room.  Believe this or not, the table was/is a nicer table than the damaged table and it was $40.00 cheaper!  YES.  The table, chairs, and bench seating were all purchased for around $200.00 give or take.  Again, with the bland wall color and florescent lighting the room was very dark.  So to give a play on the eye, we installed a mirror that has a very similar appearance to a window.  We went with the French Bistro theme in there for a little fun and addition of color.  Adding cafe' curtains to the sides of the mirror once again deceives the eye while introducing more light with DARK colors.  We were on a budget which prevented me from actually adding a black shelf to below the mirror.  Yes a black shelf would have really looked nice below the mirror and continued on with the deception of a real window.  The small space now appears much larger and is a nice area to have to eat your lunch or a quick snack.

Here we have arrived at installment #2 of Cumberland Gap Medical.  What do you think? Truly I would have enjoyed getting a warm brown or caramel color on the walls before the decor, however, the owner of the building chose to keep the colors very standard.  By choosing the "nature" decor scheme it lends it's hand naturally to warming colors. Color can be introduced into any setting without the addition of color on painted walls.  Although a different paint choice would truly take this setting to a more dramatic level you can see the difference decor makes.  Although it is an entirely neutral palate, the contrast of the photos and decor really warms the space.  The correct balance was achieved in each area of the office.  Just the correct amount of "scenery" has been placed on the walls to give your eyes a place to rest without the feeling of being overwhelmed. Patients get the sense of being outside while being in a completely enclosed space with no natural light from exterior windows or doors. 

I would like to make a side note on the restroom decor.  My son Storm went with me specifically to get something for the restrooms.  I had no idea what was needed other than it needed to stay within the parameters of nature.  We were visiting my mommy in the hospital after a major surgery when we made a quick run to Kirkland's to see if they offered anything that would work.  He made the choice of what photos to purchase within the store.  We talked about sconces that would add to the pictures instead of taking away.  We also made the quick trip to Hobby Lobby for some iron work.  He chose those all by himself.  He came trotting up to me in the store and said, "Mom, look what I found to go with our God bird pictures!!  These look like bird wings.  Mom we just have to get them!"  Well I believe by the above photos you see how it all came together.  Sometimes your inspiration doesn't come from within you, but from within the others around you.  I cannot say that without Storm pointing out the ironwork looking like bird feathers/wings that I may not have made the connection.   He saw this and we did not have the pictures with us as they were purchased the day before.  Oh to see the world through a child's eyes.

I very much enjoyed being able to decorate this office, however, the portion I enjoyed the most was being able to incorporate the NP's faith.  This is a huge ministry to others.  It is a  way of spreading God's word without opening your lips to do so.  This is a wonderful way to get out God's message by ministering to the heart, soul, mind and eyes.  It is a true blessing to work with clients such as these on each project they have presented to me.

When I received this call about decorating a Nurse Practitioner's new office, I was elated.  I was not given a great amount of time to complete the task and to add to the difficulty, I needed to purchase decor for the office without actually physically seeing the layout before hand.  A few photos were texted and e-mailed along with  a hand sketched layout email.  However, II still went into the project blind.  Several items were purchased with the thinking that I would definitely be returning several things.  It was my assumption to think go into the project completely over prepared and take back what you don't use.  Little to my knowledge would I come to find out that I would not have NEARLY enough decor to get remotely close to decorating this office.  Let me just state, that I could not be more pleased to work with these clients.  They are true Christians who live out God's word in their daily lives.  Not only are they in the business of physically healing people of their ailments, but they are working on them spiritually as well.  How many of you can say that you go into a doctor's office, dentist office, or any office for that fact and you see reference to God?  I cannot recall that I have ever been into one other than this one.  Cumberland Gap Medical in LaFollette, Tn  is just that.  I am truly blessed to have worked with these clients on not one but two projects.  Specifications for this project were to include:  Scripture references and Godly references along with a tranquil scenery.  Without further adieu...

The number of  how many installments will be related to this job, however, there will be several.  I did not have the opportunity to provide paint choices for this office nor paint, other than touch-ups to the paint project.  If I were to be asked it would have been a soft neutral in a color that hides everyday living.  That may be in the works later down the road, but for now...this color provides a nice neutral backdrop to the decor.  Before L M Cline's was on site for the install, carpeted areas were furnished with the black padded chairs for seating.  A main goal was to make the entire office warm and welcoming with a soothing atmosphere that flowed.  We tied all the colors within the rooms together to make the office flow from one room to another.  We purchased the octagon table for the large seating area at a steal of a price from Marshall's along with a hall table to provide filler for a unique niche area.  The octagonal table had several scratches and nicks, but with a little TLC and stain, sanding and fillers, we virtually erased the misuse of the furniture.  Two end tables were purchased from a local store to add to the elegance of the waiting room.  The large pictures seen were purchased from Kirklands.  Decor for the office was found at various stores.  All flower arrangements are custom arrangements built on site with the exception of the end table arrangements which I built in my home.  

Although I do not particularly  enjoy going to the doctor, I very much would feel better by just walking through the door of this office.  It is very calming and comforting for all that come.  

I pray for clients such as this to always give God all the Glory in their lives.
